Speaker 2I mean , we've been doing this thing for a little bit now . Yeah , we have two years , I'm happy and I think it's a good thing . We're staying consistent with it still putting out episodes . So yeah , I mean it's a big deal . Episode 30 is a big deal .
Speaker 1It really is , and I will be remiss . If we don't like , shout us out . Man , we are at our two year anniversary of podcasting , you know .
Speaker 1I feel like that's a little a little song song been doing this thing for two years . Man , it's our anniversary , man . I failed to mention that , right , I failed to mention that on on our past episode , but I'm big out , big shout out to us for doing this thing for two years straight . Um , starting now , we didn't know what this was gonna turn into . We were just , you know , trying something and having fun along the way , and we look up two years later , we're still doing it . Episode 30 uh , I'm just excited now . Yeah , I am too , and I'm happy to be doing it with my queen right , my queen yeah we here , baby man , hey , so look , this is a straight nba episode .
Speaker 1You know , the last episode we gave y'all straight WNBA , because it was just so much to talk about . Same for here . We got straight NBA , nothing but NBA , and I don't think we need to waste no time . What you think ? Nope , all right , b's , you know what to do . Drop that beat , all right , all right , all right . Look , last time we was talking about the NBA , the Mavericks was going into the Western Conference Finals . So that's where we're going to start . We won't stay here long , but you know I'm a Mavs fan , so I got to talk about it .
Speaker 1That is what I got to do Now , if you don't want to hear it fast forward and then you know , pick up from there . But so the Mavs ended up playing against Minnesota in the Western Conference Finals . Mavs took care of business in five games . I was actually shocked about that . I thought that could actually go to prior . I thought that game could go the distance . But once we went up 2-0 , I wish I could see my face once we went up 2-0 in Minnesota . I was a hold up , wait a minute . Y'all thought I was finished and we took care of business .
Speaker 1Man um , I believe we came back to Dallas . Man um , I believe we came back to dallas and we came up 3-0 and my boy , edward , said look for game four . He just didn't want to get swept . But I get it , uh . So they ended up winning game four . And then , of course , we had to go ahead and go back to minnesota and then let them stay in minnesota and we took our butts to the finals . That series , it was fun . It was a fun series . Minnesota's well on their way . I feel like , if my memory serves me correctly , I don't feel like Minnesota was using their pieces correctly , like they could have bullied us down low and they didn't . So thank you , minnesota , for not using your bigs . We really appreciate that . And because you didn't use your bigs the correct way , uh , we went to the finals and we played against the Boston Celtics . Um , anything that you want to say about the Western Conference .
Speaker 2Finals . No , uh , I was happy to see Dallas make it um for the first time since the last time you guys won the championship , and so it was good to see . Luka averaged 32 in that series 32 , 9 , and 8 . Really around that 9 up to a 10 . And then Anthony Edwards he averaged 25 , 9 , and 8 . But it was a good series man . I mean well , it was a good like if you were watching the game . It was a good series man . I mean well , it was a good like if you were watching the games . It was a good series . Obviously , you know the Mavericks won in five , but it was definitely entertaining . The games were fun . Yeah , yeah .
Speaker 1They were fun . I definitely would say who was big for us in that series ? Derrick Jones Jr . I think he was real big for us in that series . He had knocked down some clutch shots , um , pj . Pj was good , but I think pj really was better in that , in that clippers and okay , c series .
Speaker 1But I feel like that minnesota , oh , our bigs , played a big role in that series . Man lively just was sickening bananas . Uh , gafford even had a showing too . So I mean , nothing was stopping the mavericks . I , I feel like man and the , um , the timberwolves , I just feel like you know , a young team , uh , and edwards is fairly young , 22 years old .
Speaker 1Uh , cat , again , I appreciate you shooting threes , bro , I really do , kat , I really do appreciate you shooting those threes . Man , you know God forbid that you used your body and went down low and abused us , your seven-foot frame and you was out there , you know , jacking them up like Steph Curry and you know , because of that , thank you , we were able to advance to the finals . So you know , but to be a realist , and you know I am a Mavs fan , but to be just like loving basketball period , I want this for Cat . I want Cat to work on his inside and outside game . You know , play that bully ball down low , abuse the defense down low and then get comfortable and then go step outside and take the three .
Speaker 1The fact that you were , you know , living at the three-point line , you know really helped the Mavericks because we didn't have to worry about , you know , y'all out . You know , is it outmatching us down low ? There was no threat there . So , you know , shout out to Kat . But seriously , I would like for you to , you know , work on that inside-outside game . Yeah , anything from that series you got .
Speaker 2Nope , I'll say what I had to say . Look at this thing , kyrie , outside was 27 . Pj 12.2 . I mean , y'all took care of business in that series . I , like you said earlier , though , I did think that it would go the distance , but it did not .
Speaker 1it ended at five , and I appreciate that . So then the mavericks found themselves in the nba finals . Who would have thought it ? You know , you know you dream about that . You want that to happen for your team , but for it to finally happen it was really big for not only myself but for the city of Dallas . We faced off against the Boston Celtics , but unfortunately we fell short , losing that series in five games where Boston took care of business .
Speaker 2Four games to one we really didn't talk about the Eastern . Conference Finals . Oh Well , just to mention it .
Speaker 1I mean let's roll back then . Celtics took care of business against the Pacers man , they just rolled , they really rolled through the playoffs . You know people say that oh , this was the easiest you know roll to the finals ever . But people forget when you're the number one team , it's supposed to be the easiest roll to the finals , not necessarily .
Speaker 1Well , I'm saying , because you are number one team , you play the grand scheme of things , though Vails . You are number one team , you , you play the grand scheme of things , though those is the number one seed gets the better chances of making it because they've earned . You know that right now it's up for the those lesser or lower teams to show up and I'll play them , and , and and to move on . Or , you know , I'm saying to at least I'll play them and try to hold them and to move on , or you know what I'm saying , to at least outplay them and try to hold on and to win , like that's why the 1C plays the AC , you know . You know , theoretically , the 1C is supposed to be better than AC . You're supposed to give them a better trajectory .
Speaker 2Everybody had injuries , though like each team that they played , had injuries and okay , can we ?
Speaker 1well let me ask you this , and I'm glad you said that what teams in that playoffs did you actually see beating the Celtics , philly , philly , a healthy Philly had they beat New York , honestly , the Eastern Conference .
Speaker 2like those games were close , yeah , like the pacers had their chances . They just didn't take care of it , like they didn't finish those games yeah , those games were close , wasn't ? That hurt and then maybe miami could have gave them a run for their money . If jimmy , would you know if they had made a little bit bit further if Jimmy was healthy . The Bucs I mean it's a few of them teams that I could have seen beat them if they were at their full strength .
Speaker 1I could . You know I could , yeah , yeah , I just feel like I will say this I had Celtics , I had Celtics in , but at the beginning of the season I had Celtics and Bucs in the you know when it was going to be in the finals .
Speaker 1Celtics just have been a good team all year long . They were number one from the beginning . They have , and I just think it was just their time and their year , and I guess that kind of says way back into what I was saying . The Mavericks fell short to the Celtics and , as a Mavs fan , I'm disappointed , but I'm not . I wasn't mad , you know for one . We weren't supposed to be there . Nobody had the Mavericks going to the finals , and Mavs fans will be lying if they said they did . I didn't , I was more . So let's just get in the playoffs and let's see what happens . Let's just see . And things start to happen and things look good and we found ourselves in the finals .
Speaker 1Now what killed us was losing 0-2 , dropping 0-2 to Boston . We did not take a game in Boston ever throughout the whole series . We could not win in Boston . Going down 0-2 and then coming home and then dropping down to 0-3 , the series is over . It's 0-156 , now 157 of teams trailing 0-3 and coming back and winning . So the series was done .
Speaker 1I just feel like if we had stole a game because we should have won game two , game one , we were out of it . We were just out of it , there was nothing . Game two , we had a chance to win . I felt like we won . Game two came back to Dallas , took care of business . That series was going six or seven . Of course it did not .
Speaker 1But , as I was saying , I'm not mad that we lost , disappointed because it did not . Um , but as I was saying , like I'm not mad that we lost , disappointed because when you know you don't , we don't go often . We're not one of those teams that just goes to the finals and it's okay , we'll , we'll be back next year and we'll get them . We'll get them next year . Uh , the island smash is not a team that's consistently going to the finals , um , so once we get there , it's like I want to win . But , truth be told , boston was the better team and they had been the better team all season and if we're gonna lose , I I can take losing to Boston . Boston has been there , um , and they've lost a couple of times and third time's a charm and they took care of business and I just want to go on record as saying I can confidently say we will be back and it will be a rematch next season and we'll get into that a little bit later , but this ain't the last time y'all saw the Mavericks and Celtics playing each other in the finals , so I hope nobody thinks that that was a one-off , because it's not In 2025 , we'll be having a different conversation for sure .
Speaker 1I like your confidence , you know , hey . But yeah , celtics did what they're supposed to do man Drew Holiday . That was a great addition to their team . Great addition . I do believe that adding him catapulted them into this situation .
Speaker 2In my opinion , what you think , Well , I was actually rooting for the Mavs in the finals , and it just didn't go . That's probably why , though that's probably why we lost Mavs fans , it's because this Laker fan . Oh , no , no , no , no . Or this LeBron fan . By the way of the Lakers , Don't put that on me . Y'all just lost . It's because of her . It's because of her .

Speaker 2She's the reason why the Mavs fell short and Drake and Drake Mavs fans were excited and you know it's a couple of guys I work with on the weekends and , oh yeah , I haven't had this feeling since 2011 yeah , mavs gonna win it all . I'm like , okay , you know , we gonna see work with on the weekends . And uh , oh yeah , I haven't had this feeling since 2011 . Yeah , now's gonna win it all . I'm like , okay , you know , we're gonna see . You know , I want y'all to like we're gonna see .
Debate on Dallas Mavericks NBA Season
Speaker 2You know , I mean um , but it just didn't happen and the only reason I have my trovo voice on right now is because , like lisa's tone sounded a little bit different right when she was going through that . She sounded a little sad and I get it , you know , I mean , I understand , and that's why we always must what ?
Speaker 2because , you just never know . You just never know . Look , I understand , brad has been to the finals like 10 times and you , you know . I know what losing in the finals feels like and I also know what winning in the finals feels like . You know what I mean . Dallas did win in 2011 , and I will give them that .
Speaker 2But yeah , yeah , it didn't go as planned for the Mavericks fans this time around . Now Lisa's saying that they may be back next year . I don't know , we'll see . And the only reason I don't want to fall victim to that is because so much can happen over the course of a season . I mean so much . Anything can happen . You know what I mean . So , like you know , with the pickups and the acquisitions and we'll get into that later that Dallas has now , I mean they do have a good chance , but you got to think about it . The Western Conference is going to be tougher next year . Like it's not going to be the same . Like you'll get job back . You know everybody's going to be back and healthy . But , like I said , you just never know what will happen over the course of a season .
Speaker 2And this is not shade . Like I really was rooting for the Mavericks , like I wanted them to win . I was gonna go to the champion , uh , the championship parade . I was gonna celebrate , you know , along with my Mavericks fans . Man , like I was gonna celebrate with y'all . But , dang like , when y'all went down 0-2 and then 0-3 , I'm like , yeah , I mean I , I held on to a little bit of faith , like maybe they can do it . I don't know , we'll see , maybe they can come back from down 3-0 , because it was like it was how y'all were playing . It was the momentum . It really felt good whenever the Mavericks won Game 4 at home .
Speaker 2I was like okay , maybe they on to something , I don't know , we'll see , but in that Game 5 , boston was done playing with them . They went on and took care of business and won the championship . See , here's the thing . I don't like Boston like that though . You know what I mean . So , like I mean , I guess , individually , I'm happy for Jalen Brown , I'm happy for , you know , jason Tatum . You know I'm happy for Chris Stapps , you know , dealing with what he's been dealing with , injury-wise , being traded from team to team . But you know , to me it was a cheap championship . It does not move me . Now , had Dallas won , it would have been a legit . Well , this is just my opinion , guys . Had Dallas won , I feel like it would have been .
Speaker 2I feel like some shade has been thrown around here . It's not towards the Mavs . Had Dallas won , it would have been to me a legit championship , but I feel like Boston went in and made it cheap only because of the route that they took to get there .
Speaker 1Because of the route that they took to get there . So you're not trying to say it was cheap because they beat us . No , no , no , no . Because we're a tough team no , no , no , all right , then I digress .
Speaker 2But yeah , so , and the reason why I say like so much can happen over the course of a season because , like , look at it , like last year around this time , whenever we were having this conversation about the finals and the Nuggets winning , like we both felt as if the Nuggets could get back you know what I mean to the finals , for sure , but look where they ended . You know what I mean . They were done in what ? The semis , yeah , the semi , whatever , it is Right . So they were done , but yeah , it was a little quiet for a couple of days after the Mavs took their last L , but I mean they're going to be a really good team .
Speaker 2They're going to be a tough team to be reckoned with next season . I mean , what is his name , what is y'all GM's name ? Nico Harrison .
Speaker 2Nico Harrison is doing a tremendous job of running that team and that organization , or helping run an organization and getting those players to come and play in Dallas or come and play here in Dallas . And so I'm not mad , I'm not again . I tell my peeps this all the time I'm Mavericks fans , I like the Mavs , I do . You know what I mean and I support them as well . I mean , I , I'm rooting for LeBron until he retires and then you know I've said this before I will be rooting for the home team , like this is no secret , I said this way before like they were even , like you know , like in contention or just trying to get to the playoffs , you know I mean , but , um , I mean we'll see , we'll see moving forward , um yeah , I will say this .
Speaker 1I , I will say this . The reason , one of the reasons why , um , it was lopsided like this , is because of Kyrie's play in Boston . Yeah , I don't know if he need to have a seance . I don't know if he need to pull out some garlic . I don't know what Kyrie needs to do , because I don't understand why you can't play in Boston . Now I get
Dallas Mavericks Offseason Moves
Speaker 1it . The whole debacle , the whole I . You know what I feel like the city of Boston has put roots on Kyrie . It's just like he forgets how to play basketball when he goes to Boston ever since he stepped on their mascot in the middle of them .

Speaker 2no , he did . It had been like a let I know . But yeah , in the finals it had like been like 11 games straight , yeah and so yeah .
Speaker 1So the people of boston , in the city of boston , can you please take your hands off for kairi please ? He is sorry , okay . I'm apologizing for Kyrie . He is sorry that he did that . He stepped on your logo . He was wrong . He is sorry for for telling y'all he was gonna retire or something and he didn't like . He is sorry , like . Take the apology from me . Put your hands off for Kyrie , please , so we can , so we can move , move on , so we can beat y'all . You know what I mean . But in all seriousness , something I think it's mental , because I just don't see how one team or one arena make you lose your superpowers like that . It was like he was a shell of himself every time in the TD Garden , like I didn't know who .
Speaker 1I had put out . I put an APB out on Kyrie at one point in the series . I was like , well , can somebody find out where Kyrie is and let him know that the Mavericks are in the finals ? Because what's going on here ? So I mean I don't know and I hope I don't know what it's going to take . Like I'm trying to think like does he need to come out and apologize publicly because it's weird that he cannot play in the Garden , or he can't play against the Celtics ? Like I don't know . But that has to like . That literally has to change . Like next season , like , whatever it is , shake it off . So literally has to change next season .

Speaker 1We all do things that we may or may not regret . But what ? Keep going . But we got to be able to play in any arena . An arena shouldn't have that much control over our game like that . So please , boston , please .

I picked Dallas to win solely off of the strength of um experience of Kyrie in the way he played in 2016 with Brian , because , you know , luca kind of reminds me of Brian , like not , they don't play the same way , but he just reminds me of him .
Speaker 2Um , and then just Luca period like those two was handling business yeah throughout the you know entire playoffs and then they get to the finals and , kyrie , he went to bed a little bit that's fine , hey , like the sports .
Speaker 1Uh , listeners . Every time they'll say , blonde , take a shot oh my gosh , let's play a game . I said they want to ring together , so I'm gonna see if y'all can do it , I'm going to see if .

Speaker 1We'll see . We'll see how it goes . And another thing about that series too what we lacked that made a very difference besides Kyrie not being able to perform is shooting . We lacked that , you know . We lacked an extra score . If Luka's not having a good game , you expect Kyrie to step up , but if Kyrie's not having a good game and Luka's not having a good game , we needed somebody to step up . Pj wasn't consistent , djj wasn't consistent , tim Hardaway Jr just non-existent until when the game was out of reach .
Speaker 1I'm talking about game four and we put the smack down on them and he was , you know , he hit like six , seven threes in a row , but it was like garbage minutes and the game was already out of reach , like we didn't have any . That third option , we didn't and I think that is what killed us . It wasn't a defense , because a defense it was okay , it had stepped up , it was all right , it wasn't great . I'm not going to say we're , you know , a number one defensive team , but it was enough to get the job done . But it was just the offense . We couldn't buy a bucket . I mean , you know we can't If B buy a bucket . I mean you know we can't if Bucs are coming out there and yanking threes and hitting them and we're selling and we can't , and we're getting these twos . Well , every time we can't get a two for every day three . We'll never catch up . And so that's basically what happened here . We didn't have a third option .
Speaker 1Had we had a third option , this series may have went a different kind of way . Oh , but that has changed . That has changed . You know , free agency is upon us . We're in the thick of it . You know , a lot of the big names are already off the board and gone , so I'm going to take this opportunity right now to talk about who we just got . First and foremost , we have traded Tim Hardaway Jr . Good riddance , he is gone . Goodbye , Thank you .

Speaker 1Oh , but so we made a trade . Tim Hardaway Jr is now with Detroit . We got Quinn Grimes . I'm not familiar with his game , but from what I've been reading , he's like a 3 and D guy . He's a dog , he's a guard , but he's also a dog on defense and he can get his own shots , and that's something that we'll need . We also did a trade I believe we did some picks or something like that and we got a Najee Harris from the Pels . I don't know much about him , but from what I've been reading , he's another 3 and D guy , a hard-nosed defender , and can also create his own shot and can hit from from beyond the yard . These are the improvements that we are seeing , um , but we did something really big . Uh , yesterday we got us a sharpshooter .
Speaker 1Now , I will preface by saying he's not who he once was , but we're not asking him to be who he once was . We just need him to make the open shots when the ball's thrown to him . Me and Vales had talked about this . You know , have we come to an end of an era ? And yesterday definitely says yes , um , if you don't know what I'm talking about by now , uh , clay Thompson is now a part of the Dallas Mavericks . Yeah , yeah , clay Thompson is a part of the Dallas Mavericks . Yeah , yeah , klay Thompson is a part of the Dallas Mavericks and he fits so perfectly .
Speaker 1This is a perfect fit for him and for us , and I say this because we're not asking Klay to do more than what he needs to do . We're not asking him to be the second option . We're just asking clay to do more than what he needs to do . We're not asking him to be the second option , we're just asking him to sit over there and be ready for the ball and and and be able to hit . That's all we want out of clay . Um . So people are saying , oh , but he's not what . He only got that pressure . He don't got that kind of pressure . We got Luka and Kyrie to take that pressure off and you got to be wide open , because they command so much attention that Klay's going to be wide open and all he has to do is knock you down . That's it . You ain't got to create , you ain't you just hey , klay , I'm going to penetrate and I'm gonna kick , and when I kick , you'll be ready . That's all . And we got him for three years and 50 million , I believe that's what .

Speaker 1We addressed I think this has now catapulted us we addressed issues that we saw and what we saw was we need a third option and again , like Vel said , shout out to Nico Harrison . He addressed that third option and I think Klay will excel here for the time that he's here and I think , like I said , with that addition , I think we will be back in the , the finals , and I think we will go ahead and Lucas gonna win his first ring next year . Book it , clock it that's what they like to say now . Clock it , clock it . Okay , bold prediction .
Speaker 1But of course we did have to give up DJJ in the process of getting Clay . Um , but I did hear that we could have retained DJJ that's Dary Jones Jr but he changed the agents and it was like some kind of weirdness going on and we needed to make a move fast . We couldn't wait to , like , I guess , go into negotiations and it's like alright , either you in or you out . And new agent was like yeah , we're out and yeah and that , and that's okay . I'm sad because I'm gonna miss the hot flying the lobs and all of that and the defensive presence he had . But I will say today , the mavericks are better than what they were a few weeks ago .
Speaker 2I can say that too . Yeah , uh , those pickups are really major for y'all . I mean , like I said , nico been working Last year at the trade deadline bringing in PJ and Gafford , and then , of course , the year before that bringing in Kyrie and now bringing Clay in . Like you said , he does fit perfect in y'all's system Because I mean , once Luka and Kyrie start driving and everybody collapses in on them kick , kick , kick , shot , shot , shot , yep . So yeah , I could see , I could definitely see it working Like no head over . I could definitely see it working . I'm just upset that the Lakers didn't get on , I know you are , I know you are .
Speaker 2And it's not . It is not just about Klay . Like I feel like the Lakers are sitting on their hands at all times . I feel like this organization is ran so poorly . Yeah , I feel like Jeannie Buss needs to be at . Well , you know what and I'm talking like , while Brian is still here , she ain't going nowhere . But Jeannie Buss don't need to be doing nothing , making no decisions . And I'm about done with Rob Palenka too , because , like , what are you doing ? What are you doing ? Like we didn't get DeMar , we didn't get Ty Lue as the head coach , we didn't get Klay , we didn't get Kyrie . Like , what are you doing ? I just think , what are you doing ? That's what's bothering me . It's just like they are not . They are not making the moves that they're supposed to , they're not bringing in the players that they're supposed to be getting .

So I feel like they would have beat OKC just like the .

It's so many other players that should have got an opportunity like and they will get their opportunity when it's time for them to . And then again , the draft was sorry . It was so . When you get down to the 40th through the last pick , it's just like what come on now and they picked him at 55 .
Speaker 2It was almost done , let's be real like it just so happened that the Lakers had the 55th pick and they picked him . Now I feel like the Lakers made a really good pick at 17 . I like connect , but I'm happy for Bronnie , I'm happy for LeBron . Like , come on now . This is crazy . What you , what you feel about it .
Speaker 1Um , uh . So , yes , I think I think it was neat that Neat I hear neat in a minute I do . I thought it was neat that , you know , bronny has a chance to play with his father and , like you said , it has never been done on the NBA level . It has been done in the MLB . Of course , I'm talking about Ken griffey and ken griffey jr . They both play um baseball to get on the same team . Um , so it hasn't been done on this on this level , uh , or in this league , and so that alone is cool . I have no problem with that . Uh , nepotism has ruled america for forever , yep , so it shouldn't be any different here .
Speaker 1Right , Now the only thing that I would say is I wish it happened organically , meaning I just wish Bronny just would have gotten drafted , not had to . You know , rich Paul have to come out and tell teams hey , if you draft him , he's going to Australia . He said what he said . I understand .

The only thing I wished that it just happened organically , like any team had a chance to , to draft brani um and and to see what he has . I can respect that . But other than that , I have no problem with them using a 55 pick in a trash-ass draft to get Bronny Right . That it is to me that late in the draft the player's not typically that's a G League player , two-way player . You know what I mean . That's not a player . That's a g league player , two-way player . You know what I mean . That's not a player that's going to be on the active roster . So yeah , so all right , go get my son .

Like let's stop Right . Some of y'all been trying to get y'all friends off for years . It ever do it . Shout out to Bronny , shout out to the James family I'm happy and excited for him . I am too . Bronny is a hard worker . He worked his way to this point now . He did really well at the NBA combine . He works , he puts in the work . Let's just see what happens . Let's just see what happens . Let's just see . I'm fine with that . Maybe you know , if it doesn't work out , maybe once Bron retires then they'll trade Bronny somewhere .
